I count my lucky stars each day I get to wake up over here! Living in Hawai`i, on any island and in any part, is a very, very special treat. Some of us seem to take it for granted.
I'm proud to be an American and proud to be a resident of the Great State of Hawai`i!
You know, we could have been living on a Russian Island now, if history had shuffled the cards just a wee bit differently...
And others will also point out that we could be living in an independent Hawaiian Nation, under our own flag...
Again, if history had shuffled the cards just a tiny bit differently...
But, again today I woke up in Hawai`i Nei, and I woke up as a citizen of the USA!
For all our trials and tribulations, incredible achievements and dreams; I think that we should all take just a moment today - and everyday - and thank our lucky stars that we are where we are , and that we are who we are .
As people, we Americans have done so much to help the world and each other down throughout our relatively short national history.
Yeah, and some of the boys in charge have bungled "big-time" along the way...but, on this Festive Fourth of July, 1995, I urge you each to smell the breeze, touch the earth, hug the kids, and revel in your freedom!
.....and remember also that it cost quite a few people their lives, so that we might enjoy life this way today. Please pause and reflect on their sacrifices sometime during the day or evening.
