BARBARA PRICE - FROM MAINE - RE: Led & Cyril August 4th
We saw them too, but in Waldoboro, MAINE, one hour north/east of
Portland! There's an old 330 seater theater in a town that has one
restaurant and one very worn out grocery store. Route one bypasses
Waldoboro. BUT somehow Hawaiian Slack Key Guitars did not. The
weather was much cooler than Cambridge and surprisingly the theater
was airconditioned. More than once they commented on the very
pleasant temperatures in Maine.
Our show did not have the empty third chair, and the performers had
only shell leis some visitors from Hawaii brought (they were
vacationing in Maine), but the performance was wonderful. After Led's
portion, he and Cyril jammed, but Led broke a string with the first
strum. He played with only a quick tune to fix the problem and never
stopped. The closed with Hawai'i Aloha, but only a few of us knew the
words. But we applauded so loudly they came back and did an encore of
one of Cyril's opening numbers together. And the broken plate must
be part of the show. There was one in Led's section of our show, too,
and he did match the notes of the breaking plate.
