Waipio Valley, located just north of the town of Honokaa along the rugged Hamakua Coast is a place of historical significance for the Hawaiian people. Waipio was once the center of old Hawaiian life, with many people living in the valley. Today the valley is home to a handful of taro farmers who cultivate their crops year round. It has also recently gained significance as a tourist attraction.

The lookout point just above the historic valley is the last rest stop along hwy. 24. The lookout presents the casual visitor with a striking overhead view of the valley floor and walls.

This steep dropoff is right next to the lookout point. Parents, keep your kids away from this area.
