Blossoms Reunion
by Maude O. Takahashi
Back in the years 1968 to 1971, there was a group called the Waimanalo Blossoms, or just plain "the Blossoms." The name had a double purpose: one as a subject referring to the women in the group, and the other as a verb for the blooming of the Waimanalo community. We were a group made up mostly of mothers who were part of the Waimanalo Health Project. We met once a week at the Beach park and invited all Waimanalo residents to come and enjoy the aloha that exuberated at the meetings. Each meeting featured a learning experience in one or more topics: health and nutrition, cooking, sewing, crafts, and anything pertinent to the home and family. The meetings were full of chatter, laughter, and camaraderie. We were even featured in the local papers as the first group tom bring out the Waimanalo mothers as an active and cohesive group.
Finally, after 25 years, this original group, minus those who have passed away, is holding a reunion be fore we all "ma-ke." The reunion will be held at our old haunt, the Waimanalo Beach Park bungalow, on Wednesday November 6, 1996, from 10 am to 2 pm.
