The Pride Continues: 1996 Hawai'i Regional Scholastic Arts winners
Waimanalo School is proud to announce the names of five students being recognized for their outstanding achievement in the area of visual arts. Under the guidance of art teacher Mrs. Gail Teshima, five of our gifted students' work was selected and recently shown at Ala Moana Shopping Center. The Scholastic Art Awards was established in 1923 by M. R. Robinson to recognize and support the artistic talents of juniors and senior high students. Hawai'i has participated in the National Scholastic Art Award Program for the past 33 years. Through this program, more than $500,000 in cash awards and scholarship grants are awarded to recipients. This year 975 entries from 60 public, private and parochial schools were submitted to the Hawai'i Regional Exhibition. From these entries, Hawai'i's quota of 175 winning entries were selected by a panel of twelve distinguished judges and sent to New York for national judging. In addition, 106 entries were also selected for the regional exhibition. On February 3, a preview reception was held to honor the talents of our local youngsters at the Ala Moana Center Stage. Among those being recognized, Waimanalo School is proud to congratulate the following students:
Hayley Cuban: National Gold and Regional Silver Key.
Arlene Mascarinas: National Gold and Regional Silver Key.
Lehuanani Powell: National Gold Key.
Ashley Enanoria: Regional Silver Key.
Natasha Ahakuelo-Mendiola: Regional Silver Key.
