Bobby SoxState Champions went on to place third in the nationals

Bobby Sox Season

by Louanna Kaio

Mahalo to the Friends of Waimanalo, Nortex Company, aunties, uncles, cousins, grandmas and grandpas--and especially our moms and dads who supported our Koolau Bobby Sox last season.

We played at our state tournament and won. We also played at the national tournament at Poway in San Diego. At the National Tournament our Koolau Bobby Sox American Girls, ages 12 to 14, placed third. They played teams from all over the California area--24 teams competed in the tournament. The Bobby's Division, ages 9 to 11, placed second for the state, but didn't place for the nationals.

The weather was hot and dry and the girls gave it their all. In the finals of the tournament, each team plays at least three games, and sometimes four or five, on the same day, one after the other. Yes, it's hard and tiring, but this is how it has always been. The winner deserves to win.

Besides playing softball there was time to visit Shamu at Sea World. They went twice: to a day show, and to a spectacular night show. The girls also spent time shopping at different malls, visiting Magic Mountain and Disneyland, and going to a local style cook-out a players relative who lives in San Diego. The girls had a good time and look forward to going next year--and returning with the first place title!

The season is from March 1 to July. We will be fundraising, so please come out and support our Koolau Bobby Sox.
