What is A Wrinkle in Time?

More than 100 of the world's best Quicktime VR photographers and producers set up tripods and cameras at different locations around the globe. We were excited because we wanted some way to share the joy, passion and thrill of an incredible new technology. We wanted to do something together, en masse, as global brothers and sisters.

The idea was to share synchronized moments in time with each other and with you. The first time we did this was just as the clock struck 9 a.m. Hawai`i Standard Time on December 21st, 1997, and all of our particpants simultaneously shot 360 degree panoramas as a record of the time and that moment. See Wrinkle 1 The first time we shared the moment and sights from 5 continents.

This time we went several steps better!

Wrinkle 2 was shot on the day of the Equinox, 1998 -- Nature's moment of "global equipoise" observed as the beginning of a new year in ancient China, England, Persia, Egypt, North and South America, at the moment of Equinox the Sun set at the South Pole and rose at the North Pole. This common event for all humanity occurred this year on March 20 (21),1998 at: 9:55 a.m. Honolulu 10:55 a.m. Anchorage 11:55 a.m...."
We were all "out there" again, this time spread out across six continents and we shot more than once and threw in a couple more twists!

We began with our first Global Synchronous Shoot, based on 12 noon 3/20/98 Hawaii Standard Time. Many of our "panographers" also recorded the moment on audio tape and as you view their offerings from this first shoot, turn up your speakers to enjoy additional ambient location sound.

We have little icons on all the navigation pages to indicate the file type for these panoramas and best viewing options to coordinate with your version of Quicktime.

V1pano-1 indicates that this Pano is compatible with QT 2.1 or 2.5

V2pano-1 indicates that this Pano is compatible with QT 3.0

Our second shoot was a Global Wave Shoot based on 11 a.m. their local time shot on 3/20/98, their local date. Just like a frenzied crowd at a large sporting event that rises to their feet in waves in the stands and circles the playing field below, our participants cameras clicked and whirred one after another as father time rolled happily around mother earth.

V2pano-W indicates that this Pano is compatible with QT 3.0

Our third shot was a second Global Synchronous Shoot based on 9 p.m. 3/20/98 Hawaii Standard Time. We wanted to be able to share the full breadth and scope of this special day with you. This, our second synchronized shot, was timed with the intention of allowing those who had shot during darkness the first time, to shoot during daylight, and vice versa. The Wrinklemeister admits this worked almost everywhere except down under in Australia. Wow - what a magnificently big place Australia!

I realize that this sounds a little complicated but it is necessary that we provide this information for you so you will have the best viewing experience. It is still my best recommendation that you download the new Free QT 3.0 from Apple so that you can then basically ignore these version designations.

(He takes a deep breath....)

With any event such as this, many barriers are crossed and many potential problems can arise. We crossed national boundries and ideaologies and we communicated as best we could despite our personal limitations and many native languages. All in all, I think we came our smelling like roses! This, our second Wrinkle is bigger, more expansive, better organized and had more involvment by more people.

As coordinator of this event, I did my very best to make sure that what you see is what we advertised. A few of our Panographers admitted to problems making scheduled synchonization times and we have placed their work within an "Also Ran" category within our navigation system. Due to language problems and other unforeseens there may very well be a few other errors in timing inadvertently built in to our presentation. I apologize in advance for any such errors but, also ask that you think about what it took to bring this event together. Hundreds upon hundreds of production hours by hundreds of people all over the world, working across the internet, communicating, planning, sharing, passing files back and forth and building, testing and - by and large I think, succeeding!

Please enjoy our Second Wrinkle In Time!

We thank you for coming, trust you now have your free copy of Quicktime 3.0 installed and your browser warmed up. We share these little slices of our lives, as we experienced them in our own unique surroundings, right here with you...

This, our second such event, is once again lovingly dedicated to Madeleine L'Engle, who mesmerized me as a child with her novel "A Wrinkle In Time". Thirty-three years later she did the same thing to my daughter and inspired me to travel through time with my friends and with you. If you've never enjoyed " A Wrinkle In Time", I encourage you to do so by yourself or with your children. Check your local library or bookseller and ask for ISBN: 0-440-99805-0

Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank you very much) for giving us a visit! Please respect and help to take care of our beloved planet Earth and all her wonder, for yourself and most of all, for our children's children's children.
