Same gear plus a Sony recording walkman for the sound file. There's a beautiful bell tower just on the other side of the tree that is obscured from view. Oh well, bells make sounds and they ring on the hour. Pentax SP1000 set up on hama tripod and Kaidan QPU-2 panhead. Agfa 400 ISO film-camera set to 320. Kewl.
This time there are only a few people hangin around and traffic has died down a bit. There is now one clowd in the sky-it covers the entire sky mind you. Better shoot this one hot to get the detail. Where are those red coats-oh there they are, they are over in front of the Parliament building. They are playing music-must be a band. Can't hear them though-just an occasional distant sound of horns carried by the breeze. Oh yea, better set up the Walkman-plug in the mike-testing testing. What's that song? Sounds like the Wrinkle Blues....
Oh Oh, two minutes to shoot time-start the recorder-check the camera settings one more time. Along the waterfront there is a demonstration/gathering forming. Appropriate, they are protesting the slaughter of seals for their sex organs. Eeww!! Mother earth hates that. Look how nicely she cuddles the harbour. Ain't she sweet.
2pm...click-gong, gong. There's the bell. Oh No!! I took my first shot before the bell tolled. It must be set wrong. I better let them know that the bell tower is one second behind my watch. Click, click, click...My Wrinkle Blues turned grey. All but one or two of the nice colourful shirts left five minutes before two. Can't wait for the 11pm shoot. Just a guy and his camera, the night sky and the city lights on the water. The parliament building is beautifully lit at night. See you there....
PS. Many sincere thanks to John Yanyshyn of Visions West in Victoria for the emergency scanning session of all my negs for this project. What a guy. Thanks John, you da man.
