March 20 1998-11pm PST Me again, same stuff as before: Pentax SP1000, Agfa 400 ISO film, exposure set to 15 seconds, Hama tripod/Kaidan QPU-2 pan head, fancy little flash mount spirit level, flashlight, silly blues song running through my head, clean underwear-not a truck in sight.
Nice night. There are no clouds in the sky. Friday night traffic coming from every direction. With a fifteen second exposure, I could probably just cover the lens if someone drives by to avoid the streaks. I guess I'll get some of that-I'll try to minimize it. Wow!! Look at the Parliament buildings. This is gonna be great. And all the lights on the water-water's nice and calm. The street light I thought was going to be a problem is burnt out-fancy that hey-looks kinda neat though. It just kinda hangs in the sky. Moments before 11pm. Pretty much set up. Panning the harbour again-I hear from behind me in a car, "Hey mister, shoot this." The things you run into on a Friday night.
11pm...click, click, click...wait for trafic to stop...click, wait for traffic... There is a nice bright star in the sky, I wonder if I will pick that up. This one is taking a lot longer to shoot. So much traffic. 11:20 still shooting. Nice and quiet now. No annoying blues singer anymore, just the gentle lapping of the waves. Very nice. Thinking of all the cameras all over the world going click, click, click. Far out, what a treat to be part of this again. Many thanks to Robert Abbett aka rabbett for organizing this. Thank you looking in on Victoria-and goodnight. Looking forward to Wrinkle III.
PS. Many sincere thanks to John Yanyshyn of Visions West in Victoria for the emergency scanning session of all my negs for this project. What a guy. Thanks John, you da man.
