Lions Gate Bridge - The "Wave" Shoot - 11am PST March 20, 1998
Vancouver, BC Canada
Dimensions of QTVR 420*240

Out upon the Lions Gate Bridge.

Shoot number one for the day.

As the panorama opens, you are looking at a view of Horseshoe Bay from one of the observation decks of the Lions Gate Bridge, Vancouver, BC, Canada. You are facing west and can see a bit of Stanley Park to the left and below. The entrance to Burrard Inlet is what the bridge spans and to the right are views of West Vancouver. Swinging around you can see more of the bridge and into the inner harbour, over to North Vancouver, and some of the Vancouver skyline. Behind the north end of the bridge is Grouse Mountain where I'll shoot the next two panoramas of the day.

I thought since the ocean is right here, I may as well have it in the "Wave" shoot. Also, I felt including Stanley Park (1,000 acres) right off downtown Vancouver was a great way of showing a refuge of nature in the middle of an urban environment. Wilderness isn't far off into the mountains either.

I tried to shoot without getting too many cars into the shots and was mostly successful. This is only because they are moving fast, so any one vehicle could not be in more than one exposure. Luckily I only had to do a little PhotoShop work to eliminate ghosts and to recreate the back end of the taxi.

My only real concern during the shoot was the vibration of the bridge. It's unbelievable -- I didn't really think it was going to work. Maybe it just feels worse than it actually is. Other than that, this time of year always has the likelihood of rain here in Vancouver, so a few clouds aren't going to spoil my morning. I just hope they don't get worse before the shoots at 2 and 11 pm.

Speaking of the other shoots, I had to park in kind of a weird spot to get close to the bridge. I hope the car is still there when I'm done. Otherwise I may be late for the next shoot!
