What is a panorama and how do I explore it?
With a QuickTime VR panorama, you can explore a 360-degree scene using your mouse or keyboard.
If you've installed the QuickTime software and its browser plug-in correctly, you should see a small image appear below.
This is a small preview panorama -- the panoramas on the rest of this site are bigger and much sharper. We've deliberately made this one tiny so that you can start exploring right away.
To "move around" in the panorama, position your mouse pointer anywhere within the image -- notice that the pointer's shape changes into a small circle. You can now navigate as follows:
- To turn to the right, drag the mouse to the right.
- To turn to the left, drag the mouse to the left.
- To look up, drag the mouse toward the top of the image.
- To look down, drag the mouse toward the bottom of the image.
You can also zoom in to take a closer look at something, or zoom out to take in more of the scene at once. Here's how:
- To zoom in, press your keyboard's Shift key.
- To zoom out, press your keyboard's Ctrl (Windows) or Control (Mac OS) key.
If you've never used QuickTime VR before, you might want to practice navigating using the preview panorama above. After you've polished your VR-navigation skills, you're ready to explore the world!Page by Jim Heid
