Remote observation group at W.M. Keck Observatory, one of the world's most powerful ground based telescope, headquartered in Waimea, Hawaii. Astronomers (clockwise from starting center) Alan Stockton, Teresa Chelminiak, Tom Bida and Gabriela Canalizo take a break to pose for the wrinkle photo while working on Keck 2's spectrometer on quasar 3C190 located approximately 10 billion light-years away. For more information visit the Keck homepage at www2.keck.hawaii.edu:3636/

The Keck Observatory houses two powerful telescopes and is located on the summit of Mauna Kea over 13,000 feet above sea level and is the premier site in the world for astronomy. There are strict outside lighting codes for the county of Hawaii due to the presence of these observatories to reduce light pollution at night, therefore I didn't have much of a natural opportunity for an outside night shot. Photographed with a 20mm lens, Kodak Gold Max film at 800 EI, FL-D filter. Kaidan Kiwi pano head, spun with Nodester on a Power Macintosh G3.
